It cannot be envy of Emma ...   Written by Rabab (2/13/2011 6:02 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I don't think its..., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

... that's keeping JF reserved and unforthcoming.

IMO, these two have been acquainted for a long time, and they just don't vibe well. Under these circumstances, and with JF's good understanding, she probably knows any information she provides to Emma has a very good chance of being subjected to her "fancy" and emerging 'transformed'!

So, I think thats why JF is being so cautious by not volunteering information, not realising that her circumspection is making Emma all the more determined to work wonders with the little info that she does have! What delicious irony :D

About envy... IMO, JF is not the kind of person who would be envious of another's good fortune, we know that JF and Miss Campbell have always been the best of friends, and as the ON says, "the warm attachment of Miss Campbell in particular, was the more honourable to EACH party from the circumstance of Jane's decided superiority both in beauty and acquirements."

Inspite of being superior to Miss C in every way, JF does not seem to begrudge her the better fortune or fate, and they have happily spent their childhood and youth in perfect friendship and amity...

"Living constantly with right-minded and well-informed people, her (JF) heart and understanding had received every advantage of discipline and culture;"
