No, neither of them have to be best freinds, but Jane is in a weaker postion than Emma and Emma has, as seh knows quite wlel herself a duty to show her special consideration. they dont have to be intimate, but she coudl invite her to spend the day at Hartfield soemtimes, or a chance ot play her piano.. and possibly if she had done so more often, Jane would have felt her to be more genuine and friendly, and might have been easier with her...
