Are you new?

There are two (or more) definitions for "demented." I'm sorry for not making it clear which definition I was using. The first definition is indeed "insane," but I was using the word with the second (more medical) definition in mind which is "affected with dementia." I was simply wondering if Mr. Woodhouse was suffering from a deterioration of his mental faculties and Emma had noticed this and was protective of him because of this.
