in consequence of the missive, Of course she does. Emma is hardly subtle about it, penned by Kathleen Glancy
I can understand Emma getting a bit irritated that she extended the hand of friendship and it was rebuffed. I can even understand her frustration in not having her curiosity satisfied. However, if she had just shrugged her shoulders and let it go, that would have been fine. Instead, she persists in seeing suspicious motives in Jane's reserve with no other evidence than what her own imagination has conjured.
What bothers me most is her attitude about Jane's response to her piano playing. That is, IMO, just catty. Here Emma reminds me strongly of some girls I knew back in high school. I had to hear them harping constantly on how they got lower grades, and if I mentioned their skills in anything else they immediately accused me of trying to show off my own grades. With jealous people you cannot win, and Emma is definitely jealous here.
