that perhaps she felt like she would be a financial burden on her family. Of course they would always have a home for her and want her with them. Of course she doesn't feel like she can impose on Colonel Campbell. But it could be that she feels that her family's life would be less prosperous, that the Bates would have fewer options financially, if she lived with them.

I was just saying that could be part of why she wants to find a position.
