I was a teenager when I first read Emma, and I skipped over Miss Bates long paragraph because I did not have patience for her either.

Now that I've matured, I have greater patience. There are some in my life, often the elderly, who need to have an ear, and I try to find time to lend them my two ears. I won't have these people long and I want to enjoy them as long as they are here.

My hopes for Emma is that she too will mature and enjoy the Miss Bates as much as she does her own father.
