I agree that Jane problably is not that keen on Emma, and she's reserved and does not show freindliness easily, but Emma has a duty as the first lady of the area, to show kindness and give soem discreet patronage and help to Jane as a poverty stricken lady... and I dont think she does enough. And Jane problaby is aware of this and resents it a little.
