in consequence of the missive, This seems a bit harsh to me, penned by Laraine
that Jane Fairfax cares as little for Miss Woodhouse's friendship as Emma does for hers. While Emma makes an overture of friendship to JF after a two-year absence, she is politely rebuffed. After all, Jane Fairfax already has a very intimate friend in Mrs. Dixon. She does not seem to want a replacement for the friend she has effectively lost by marriage.
