Fresh off her education   Written by Ramya (2/10/2011 2:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, "What must be at last, had better be soon.", penned by Louise H
Are you new?

Perhaps there was a better chance of finding a position as a Governess after having freshly completed her own education.

I'm sure people wanted to hire either younger women (like Miss Taylor) or an older woman with work experience. An older woman with no prior governessing experience may or may not be in touch with the latest developments in education.

The other alternative for JF, I suppose, would be to become a teacher at a school. I don't know however, if it would be easier entering that profession when older.
