that we find in the book -- very good looking, a picture of a certain hearty masculinity if I am reading Austen correctly. While Cummings was entertaining, he tipped his hand right away, and was not the Elton portrayed by Austen. That Elton was much more subtle in many ways, although somewhat over the top in his reaction to Emma's portrait of Harriet.
