Harriet would indeed be a terrible fool if she was not aware of Emma's social power and if she did not, to some extent, feel some pleasure in being taken up nad protected by the woman who is social Queen Bee of the village. A cleverer girl mgith of course feel "this is very nice, but is it going to last"....
