his law practice   Written by Nikki N (2/4/2011 2:16 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, John, his brother and their mutual regard for each other..., penned by jeffrey
Are you new?

John is a barrister and we're told that he is clever and rising in his profession, he must have quite a busy practice since he could only spare a week for the Christmas holidays, and Mr Woodhouse said "Mr John Knigtley's being a lawyer is very inconvenient". Isabella had always refused to stay behind without her husband.

I rather wonder what he is like in his career -- since he is rising in his profession, I suppose he must be good at winning cases in court -- and his dislike of social functions do not seem to be detrimental to his career. Perhaps he will rise to be a judge one day? JA seldom wrote about lawyers -- none of her heroes is a lawyer, but in MP, Mary Crawford tried to get Edmund to give up the church and go into law instead. I find John quite interesting too, and I wish we could get more of a glimpse into the law practice at that time, and about John's career.
