There's a delightful little cluster of meanings in there. He undertakes to follow her advice, but also manages to skewer her lack of authority or Emma's willfulness or both, all in one brief sentence. Mr Rushworth (he who grew puzzled from trying to cram meanings into a speech --MP ch6) ought to be all admiration.
