Unqualified success   Written by Rabab (2/2/2011 6:44 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Not in every situation, which is normal., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

Well, it must be acknowledged that Emma is an excellent daughter.. there, she is an unqualified success, and most of the examples you supply relate to her being a good daughter. She invests extraordinary effort in ensuring that her father can maintain his habits of "gentle selfishness", even going to the extent of forgoing a few excellent opportunities to indulge in verbal fisticuffs with Mr John Knightley ;)

As to her charitable work.. it is indeed commendable and more than anyone else in her situation would be likely to do... BUT... when combined with her condescending attitudes towards those of a lower class and exaggerated notions as to what is due to persons of her own class, her charity somehow loses it's sheen. My opinion, that is ;)

Anyway, this is just the beginning. And the author seems only to be setting her stage, so to speak.. on which momentous events must surely take place! The stage setting surely demands that certain characteristics in Emmma must be highlighted... but with so many virtues, Emma will hopefully redeem herself later on!

BTW... I said she DID have talent, plenty of it... BUT no industry, commitment or patience. Sorry for the quibbling.. :D
