writing master   Written by Nikki N (2/2/2011 1:02 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Writing master, penned by Bridget D
Are you new?

yes, it makes sense that someone who teaches writing to working class people would be of very low rank -- unlike well qualified and accomplished masters and governesses who could teach music, drawing, foreign languages etc. A village schoolmistress who teaches working class girls basic reading, writing and sewing would also be of much lower rank than an accomplished governess and gentlewoman like Miss Taylor.
