I agree. remember the first time I read this book, I was so upset with Emma for being a snob I could have put it down just for that. The way she treats her father is one of her traits that compensated things for me. I remember thinking- if she can have such tenderness and patience towards an old hypochondriac, she can't be all that bad- so I kept reading.
