I don't get the feeling that... Written by Reeba (2/1/2011 11:18 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Emma's persistent wrong-headedness, penned by Sarah Yorkshire

Emma wants Harriet to marry Mr Elton so she can remain her friend. Remember she chose Harriet for Mr Elton long before her friendship with Harriet.

Marriage to Mr Elton is all that seems to be driving Emma.

I think she tells Harriet about not being able to visit her if she had married Robert Martin, is to make her feel good about rejecting the proposal.

I'm relieved Emma didn't use this as a weapon right from the start to get an immediate rejection of the proposal.
