Is Harriet Blameless?   Written by Jane Marie (2/1/2011 9:03 a.m.)
Are you new?

By her own account, the Martins opened their home and hearts to Harriet for the summer.

Did Harriet owe the Martins nothing for their generosity?

Yet when Emma speaks ill of the Martins, Harriet says nothing in their defense, does nothing in their defense, and worse is persuaded to agree with Emma's assessment.

Must we excuse Harriet for her human frailty?
Can we blame Harriet for her lack of self will?
