the beginning of one of our quarrels   Written by Stephanie (1/31/2011 8:37 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, The charm of distance or of Marriage?, penned by Ramya
Are you new?

I am not sure I agree that Mr. Knightley was talking about Mrs. Weston no longer being Emma's hourly companion when he talked about the 'charm thrown over her senses.' After all, even when Miss Taylor was Emma's governess, he apparently thought Miss Taylor did not see Emma's flaws and lack of serious study. And Mr. Knightly has always been a visitor on the footing that Mrs. Weston is now, and still sees problems with Emma's decisions and character.

On the other hand, I can not suss that sentence out any better, so maybe you have it right, and I am just being dense. It would not be the first time... *tries to be a Mr. Knightley, not an Emma*
