LOL, it is mean spirited...   Written by Patricia AA (1/31/2011 6:15 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sarcasm, wit, irony, satire..., penned by Rabab
Are you new?

Emma's comments are coming directly from her--she sincerely believes what she is saying, it isn't sarcasim.

The lines from P&P are pure tongue-in-cheek, and coming directly from the ON.

I believe Emma is mean-spirited in her comments regarding a poor, single woman...she undoubtedly has Miss Bates uppermost in her thoughts. Please correct me if I am wrong, but Emma seems to tolerate Miss Bates--and "use" her as a companion for her father--but otherwise doesn't have much desire for her company.
