Though I do think that what she says is witty, I agree with you that it probably isn't satirical, as Emma shows no sign of recognizing the discrepancies behind what she so incisively exposes. Perhaps the satire is all JA's but as the IGnobel guys say "first make people laugh, and then make them think."

So, perhaps, Emma might yet awaken to the power behind her own humor... and if she were with someone other than Harriet, she might do it sooner.
