Are you new?

I would assume that Mrs. Goddard is teaching the young ladies some music, as it was considered an "accomplishment," and perhaps the Martins are genteel enough to have a piano for their daughters. So possibly Harriet lent some of her sheet music to Elizabeth so Elizabeth could copy it down for her own use at home, rather than having to purchase it.
