That's what I feel when I read the scene of that first evening at Hartfield! I think Emma is at her most appealing, however, when she tries to maintain family harmony. I'm afraid I've been in both her position and in John Knightly's - finally losing patience with the absurdities of others' thoughts.

Emma is also clever to hold baby Emma when she makes up with George Knightly! She will hold her point, but does so charmingly!
