I'll Just Say This...

in consequence of the missive, Emma and Robert, penned by Bridget D
If I were Robert Martin and Harriet, in her youthful exuberance, let slip some of the things that Emma said about me, I would not be so generous as to feel that her comments were not an affront to a life of hard-work, being a decent person and having in no way done anything to deserve them. Emma can't be sure that the things she's said could never get back to any of the Martins. Something as simple as someone at Mrs. G's school asking Harriet if she is going to be visiting the Martins anytime soon might get a confused blurb such as "Mrs. Woodhouse says it wouldn't be right for me to stay with them anymore." Highbury is a gossiping town and who knows what even a small hint of Emma's words might have done or could possibly do down the line. Awful things have resulted in one person saying something negative to one other person about another and meaning no harm. Maybe I've just worked with young people too long and am influenced a great deal by these kinds of things so prevalent in their lives. Anyway, just my perspective. So unless Emma plans on demeaning some other innocent person down the line, I'll leave it for now. :) |
