I looked at the passage and it jsut says that after the backgammon table had been set up a visitor walked in. It does not necessarily imply that Mr K had a key to the door and then just marchced inot the drawing room unannounced. Possibly he did not bother to be announced.. he knows the house and knows he is usually welcome, so he might just say "no need to announce me.. I;ll just wlak in", but I imaigne that a servatn opened the door to him at the least...
