I think the narrator is describing (above) the Woodhouse’s status in the neighborhood. Stephanie do you see it as Attitude? In the rest of the paragraph the narrator describes Emma’s and Mr. Woodhouse’s similar feelings of loss resulting from Miss Taylor’s marriage and their opposite dispositions which causes him to openly mourn and her to try to support his spirits. (:D)
