don't see anything so far that makes me respect her either. With the exception of losing her mother at an early age, life has been very kind to Emma. She has not had to face the prospect of being impoverished like the Bates, of having to work, as Miss Taylor and Mrs Goddard have, of not knowing her real parents and becoming a border like Harriet. So far, she seems like the 19th century girl "famous for being famous."
