JA liked too, especially when compared to a major irritant like Harriet :-D

The contrast that JA has brought out here between the two is interesting.
Not the easy one of good and bad.

Emma's views about the Martins are unfortunate.
It's even more unfortunate that she has to express them in words to influence Harriet to keep her away from them, so that her plans are not spoilt.
In the process contradicting herself several times, exaggerating her original thoughts, and on the whole making herself say things she perhaps didn't indulge in earlier.

I woud say, and agree with Mr Knightley....Harriet is no good for Emma ;-)
Both are not good for each other.
