I agree it was possible -- it would have been regarded as a very good match for him, and a tolerable match for her.

I've wondered though -- about Emma's fortune -- since Mr Woodhouse was still alive, was she (and her sister Isabella) already in command of their fortunes -- or were they regarded as rich young ladies because they knew what they would inherit from their father?
