With regard to Mrs. Weston's title, I don't think that anyone would have worried much about a title change in Mrs. Weston's position. She was probably regarded as the former governess. "It is the fault of her face that she has them not" means that Harriet's face would look better if she did have the eyebrows that Emma gave her, rather than the ones that she was born with. Fault doesn't imply blame here, it implies lack, as in a faulty creation. |
