that is the quote I was thinking of. It seems to me that while she may have loved her husband I don't think that love would have lasted long under her regret of not being at Enscombe anymore. It made me think of other unequal marriages in some of JA's other novels but that belongs to another board. I think it made it more obvious to me how much Mr. Weston deserved Miss Taylor even though it brought temporary pain to Emma and her father. Maybe his wish to have purchased his own estate before he married again came from his experiences in his first marriage.
