are breathing a sigh of relief over that (as much as I love Becky Sharp, more than one of them at a time would be hard to take). I am not sure, however, that the happy endings in P&P and S&S are typical of society at that time. Are they more wish-fullfillments for the author and the readers? I'm not saying that a beautiful but poor woman of that time never married a man with considerable property or a title, but I am thinking it was rare. I never saw Emma 4, so I can't comment on the actress who played Harriet.
