Harriet was brought to Hartfield..   Written by Reeba (1/26/2011 7:55 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Harriet was Emma's doll, penned by Glenn
Are you new?

Though Emma had noticed Harriet before this she didn't go out of her way to befriend her till she was brought to Hartfield by Mrs Goddard.

Harriet is not friendless. She has friends, at school, and at the farm.

But Harriet in her turn **knows the worth of things/positions**

While at Abbey- Mill farm she notices their possessions;
-two parlours, two very good parlours indeed;
-an upper maid
-eight cows, which shows some great property
- a very handsome summer-house in their garden,

At Hartfield;
-artlessly impressed by the appearance of every thing in so superior a style

'artlessly' would mean 'naively' which IMO stands for Harriet who was unable to hide her regard for higher society in Emma's case, 'money' in the case of Abbey Mill farm.

Doll is not an image that comes to my mind.

If Emma wasn't hogging all the negative 'limelight' here one would label Harriet as **an upstart**.
