*In ch. 1, Emma talks about no one being a replacement for Miss Taylor for even half a day. This confuses me -- is a four-hour-long visit, or social connection normal? If any of out resident experts on social mores can tell me whether Emma is probably exaggerating the time period, or if she literally means that a friend would give hours at a time to another, I would love to know!
