Mrs. Goddard could have been a Governess elsewhere. And Isabella may have had someone else before Miss Taylor joined their household. Or she may have attended Mrs. Goddard's herself. Both Cassandra and Jane Austen went to boarding school for a few years.

Miss Taylor must have been pretty young when she started at the Woodhouse's- her first position, perhaps? That could explain why she let Emma have her own way a lot...
