this is when I like Emma not at all.

I can excuse the behavior because she is still rather young in the ways of the world, and she's good at contriving reasons why her way is the only way to look at things. But there are things here that she really, truly cannot justify. In the end, she's playing games with what is, after all, Harriet's real, not fanciful, future life.

Harriet would probably be happy married to Mr. Elton, because she is a happy person. But Emma doesn't seem to be at all clear sighted about Mr. Elton.
