Dear Mr Copperfield,
I wish you very happy — and I urge you in continuing to adhere to honour and duty, that though now you may harbour some regret, in the end you must become cheerful. Your ‘child-wife,’ by your own admission, is tender and does not want for goodness, and that is the foundation on which everything may be built. And after all that is bewitching in the idea of a single and constant attachment, and all that can be said of one's happiness depending entirely on any particular person, it is not possible that it should be so. Time and habit will teach you to be happy, sir. Have patience.
