in consequence of the missive, I cannot stand this any more!, penned by Valancy Stirling
That is quite unfortunate that you are quite a spinster now, but never fear! My new friend Mrs Weston, who is - mind you - a former governess did get married and she was even older than you are. So perhaps you will catch a husband after all, though he will probably be an older gentleman and most likely a widower. Pardon my bluntness, but my friends have always liked my honesty and open temper.
If you mean to enjoy outdoors and want to live a secluded life in the countryside, you absolutely must have a donkey. They are most useful for transportation if there is mud or dust. My caro sposo, Mr Elton, is now in Kingston and he is buying the loveliest donkey pour moi. Isn't he a dear? I am a modest woman and I don't need much, but even with my vast inner resources, he can't expect me to be sitting at home all the time.
If you happen to come to live near Highbury, I might be inclined to include you in our carriage when we go exploring in the summer. Expeditions are delightful things, and my friends say my picnics are always the best. And I live in the garden of England. Surrey is the garden of England. I will also take Jane and her aunt, but our carriage is very spacious. If you are not fat, I could accommodate you very well.
You don't like being called "Doss" - may I call you Valancy then? Or Val? I think Jane shall like "Val" best. She is a sweet girl, and so very accomplished. You will love her excessively if you indeed do come. Do you play or draw? If you play, you and Jane and I shall start a musical club. How perfect!
I stay, your sincere well-wisher
