in consequence of the missive, My friends have abandoned me!, penned by Pinkie Pie
I am sorry to say so, but I am sure you are exaggerating a bit. I myself spent an evening with Mrs. Elton after our Box Hill picnic. Mrs. Elton would have us come. It was settled so, upon the hill, while we were walking about with Mr. Knightley, though Mr. Knightley did not come; he declined it from the first; and though I thought he would come, because Mrs. Elton declared she would not let him off.
But my mother, and Jane, and I were all there, and a very agreeable evening we had. Such kind friends, you know, Miss Pie, one must always find agreeable, though every body seemed rather fagged after the morning's party. Even pleasure, you know, is fatiguing, and I cannot say that any of them seemed very much to have enjoyed it. However, I shall always think it a very pleasant party, and feel extremely obliged to the kind friends who included me in it.
Perhaps your dear friends just wanted to have a rest.
I wish I could compose such lovely letters as my Jane. I know not what more should I write. I can talk and talk and talk, but writing is another matter.
I hope, dear Madam, that you find my note at least a bit comforting, and don't be angry at your friends. I am positive they meant no harm.
