I have long maintained that Emma, like her father, wished to stay at Highbury and not to venture out more than necessary. Necessary would be, like Isabella's confinement in London or for her father's health, etc
They had determined that their marriage ought to be concluded while John and Isabella were still at Hartfield, to allow them the fortnight's absence in a tour to the sea-side, which was the plan.
We don't even get into Emma's head (as we had been doing all along) to find out what she thought of it.
