in consequence of the missive, Why does Jane Fairfax love FrankChurchill?, penned by BuffaloGal
We see a clue at the party to Box Hill. Churchill go on about how Elton met his wife during the short time he was at Bath, and how it seem folly "on such a short acquaintence;" or words like that. He also continue an unseeming closeness to Emma, which if he would have shared his like for girls, it may not have irritated Jane so much. (Whack me, if you chuse. I am going more on memory from the adaptions than the text; of which I have recently viewed all 4.)
Remember, Mrs. Churchill assume room temperature, which release him from his dread of poverty (S&S). In the happy ending, Churchill and Jane wed, but in the unhappy ever after, she "survive her elevation by only nine years;" IIRC. Would Churchill have a happy second attachment?
