de facto moving among the nobility, in terms of circles

But Mr Woodhouse is clearly a man who prefers a quiet country life to Town life and his old friends to the fashionables of upper class society. If he had wished, theres nothing to STOP him having a London house and visiting other gentry and noble families,but it is very very obvious that that sort of life does not agree with him and he would not want it. Any more than Mr Knightley (who is the other "first family" in the neighbourhood)wants it. HE too is content to be a country squire, rarely visiting London or anywhere else and busy with his life at home.
