coachman   Written by Nikki N (3/16/2013 11:39 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Own carriage?, penned by Thérèse
Are you new?

Mr Woodhouse would regard any coachman other than his own trusted coachman James as a common coachman!

As long as he can afford it, it was more desirable for a man with a wife and children to have a carriage than for a bachelor to have one.

As for the holidays, it is much more convenient for a father and mother with five children to go to a seaside resort that is only 40 miles away than to another resort that is 130 miles away, even without considering the expense, the longer journey would be tiring for the children.
