What self discipline? She's good to her father, and devotes herself to him.. but that's because she loves him. It is not all that difficult for her. I can't see why it wold be anyway. JA tells us that he's a lovable man in spite of being fussy and not very clever..

When it comes to anything demanding real self discipline such as subjecting her imagination to the demands of reality, or practising her accomplishments so that they are really good, she can't or wont do it. Similarly she's not self disciplined enough to put aside her irritation at Miss B's talking or Jane's "reserve" adn do her duty by them properly.
