Agree   Written by Reeba (3/16/2013 10:56 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Hard work indeed, penned by Thérèse
Are you new?

There are those occasions when she entertains at home, and gently has to deal with her father's discouraging the guests from eating because of health concerns, while encouraging them to eat, and pacifying her father's nerves at the sight and thought of this.

Shielding her father from anyone's thoughtless comments (especially Mr John Knightley's).

Her father's refusal to sit at the head and carve leaving Emma to deal with the situation.

It's an ongoing situation in the book almost always when Mr Woodhouse comes into the scene. We can imagine what it was like when not being mentioned.

Soothing her father's nerves was not the job of the servants.
