John and Isabella's money

Isabella is the heiress of thirty thousand pounds or more, but she will have it all only at her father's death.
Nowadays we have a lot of loans etc, but in these times it was different and what she had had at her marriage, was much more probably five or ten thousand pounds.
As for Mr John Knightley, it is very difficult to know what he was legally entitled to, from both of his parents; but if, as I suspect, the management of Donwell Abbey had been somehow deficient the few previous generations, and his mother was not very rich, it was probably not very much.
And his earnings as a "rising" lawyer could not be very high, as I wrote.
