"There was only Harriet, who seemed not in spirits herself, fagged, and very willing to be silent; and Emma felt the tears running down her cheeks almost all the way home, without being at any trouble to check them, extraordinary as they were."

It would seem they both had their own situations to deal with.

-Not being in spirits was the *mood of the day*. Perhaps she caught it from the others.
-Harriet may have been fagged due to the heat.
-Seeing MIss Woodhouse cry must have made her very willing to be silent.
