meanings   Written by Stephanie (2/24/2013 5:28 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, She didn't think she was flirting, although, penned by Graciela
Are you new?

I am not sure from your response, nor your quote, whether you are agreeing with me that Emma [seeming to be] flirting in front of Harriet is odd behavior, since she means Frank Churchill and Harriet to fall in love.

Your title seems to say, that because Emma did not take the behavior as serious flirting, the conversations with Mr. Churchill should be discounted by Harriet (and other witnesses). But the rest of your post seems to agree with me.

The oddity is increased by Emma still intending Mr. Frank Churchill for Harriet, yet managing none of the little offices she claims to have performed for Mrs. Weston, or DID arrange for Harriet during the fiasco with Mr. Elton.

It does, however, show her blindness, since she thinks Harriet is the creature he describes; Harriet, the least lively of them, who lacks hazel eyes. Only the mention of a passage of two years saves her from being completely deranged for thinking he means Miss Smith...
