thank you   Written by Stephanie (2/20/2013 6:08 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Harriet, penned by Jana
Are you new?

It makes sense; however, I rather wonder at it. I also posit that since Harriet thinks so highly of Emma, who can see into everybody's heart, that she merely believes that Emma would not have given her affection, because Emma would have seen Mr. Churchill's admiration of another. (Sort of giving her credit, without proof, after the fact.)

I also wonder that Emma flirted with Frank Churchill on Box Hill (in front of Harriet), when she believed Harriet had informed her of her own affections being conquered by him. It seems cruel, in that circumstance, to gain all his attentions, and leave poor, lovesick Harriet as an onlooker to their attraction for each other. What happened to letting his manners be the rule of yours? Harriet can hardly see if they have a future together if Emma never lets him converse with another lady at length.
