She never mentions that she was right, and Mr. Knightley wrong, about Miss Fairfax, either; either about Miss Fairfax being reserved, or about Emma having as much right to choose whom she wishes for a friend, as Mr. Knightley has in choosing an open temper in a wife! She still has faults unaddressed at the end of the novel, but we see that she can learn and grow, and I, at least, am satisfied that she will. |
